Jevremovac – Serbia
Jevremovac is the neighborhood of the Serbian capital that houses the only botanical garden in Belgrade, established in 1874 by Josif momentum Pancic renowned scientist, who also served as its first director.
The name comes from Jevrem Jevremovac Obrenovic, the grandfather of King Milan Obrenovic. The king donated the estate inherited from his grandfather to the development of the botanical garden with the condition that his family were honored.
Nedeljko Kosanin botanist was another Jevremovac responsible growth, which was largely neglected during the communist government. Currently, the arboretum has regained its glory and receives about 60,000 visitors a year.
The botanical garden has 500 species of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, a greenhouse of 500 square meters was built in 1892, a research institute, a herbarium and a library with over 6,000 books.
